For fine gourmets, the hinterland on the island of Korcula is home to countless treasures. Culinary traditions and innovations run shoulders here; respect of the produce and know-how are the keystones. As proof: the two estate visits that await you in this food Eden.
So, what awaits you during your first stop in the heart of the island of Korcula? Amber and unctuous honey, the result of generations of work, and the Trut Dry Gin distilled from local plants by a bold hedonist seeking to “capture the fleeting moments of the high summer”. Here, a family established in the region for decades wonderfully combines culinary tradition and innovation to produce, source and magnify the best that nature has to offer.
Not far from there, the Škoj organic estate, located in the village of Žrnovo, is another delicious example of devotion and love of good food. The owners began their adventure 13 years ago and now grow 40 kinds of fruits and vegetables. Anything that they cannot produce themselves (meat, cheese, etc.), they source from neighbours and friends, making the table at Škoj a perfect example of hyper-local cuisine, like the light dinner the hosts will concoct for you that evening.

In Korcula’s open-air theatre, attend a performance of the Moreška, a traditional dance that has been practiced for more than four centuries on the Croatian island.
Widespread all over the Mediterranean in the 12th and 13th centuries, the Moreška - a simultaneous dance and traditional swordplay - has existed on the island of Korcula since the 16th century. It has its roots in Spain, particularly in association with the conflict between Moors and Christians; in Dalmatia, it is closely connected to the battle against the Ottoman Empire.
During this excursion, you will have the chance to attend a performance of this folkloric heritage within the walls of the island’s open-air theatre. The intrigue generally shows the conflict between the White King (who wears red) and the Black King, who are fighting for the heart of the veiled princess. Called Bula, she opens the show with a declaration of love for the White King, before being taken hostage by the Black King. In a circle and accompanied by their soldiers, each holding an iron sword, the dancers confront each other to various rhythms until the White King wins and the lovers are reunited.
After the performance, you will enjoy refreshments consisting of local biscuits, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
