Located west of Saigon, Cu Chi turned out to be the most war-torn area during the Vietnam War with the French and the American. Driving for 70 km (44 mi) out of the city centre and into the surrounding countryside, it is hard to believe you are entering a war zone of such strategic importance. This tour focuses on the ingenuity and resilience of the Vietnamese fighters who both lived and fought from underground tunnels. Originally constructed as a means to fight against the French by the Viet Minh, the tunnels were later expanded up to 11 metres (36 ft) below ground in hard soil using only rudimentary tools. Most tunnels were only 0.5–1 metre (2–3 ft) wide and 1.5 metre (5 ft) high, with thick roofs capable of withstanding the weight of tanks or the impact of bombs weighing up to 90 kg (200 lb).
On arrival at Cu Chi, a short video traces the history of the tunnels, their origins, design and construction. A military guide will explain with the use of dioramas the underground network, and display some of the tools and weapons utilised by the guerrillas. Much of the tunnel complex has been open and ventilated so that you can more easily experience the underground meeting rooms, kitchens, hospital and sleeping areas. More adventurous and agile tunnel explorers can experience an unlit passage, which has not been widened for the comfort of visitors! You will be tested to find the hidden tunnel entrances and be given insight into the ingenious methods that the Vietnamese soldiers employed to remain undetected and frustrate their enemies.
Then, head to a local restaurant for a Vietnamese lunch before rejoining Saigon. On the return drive to the pier, a stop will be made at the poignant War Remnants Museum. Here you learn more about the conflict and the lasting effects of the war in Vietnam today.

Depart the pier in Ho Chi Minh City for the 3 hour-drive to Cái Bè. Along the way, you will pass through miles of flat rice fields, small villages and highways bustling with bicycles and ox-carts riding to and from the market.
Upon arrival at Cái Bè, located in the heart of the Mekong Delta, embark your traditional wooden sampan, and enjoy a refreshing drink. The boat sets off for its leisurely cruise on the busy waterways of the Mekong Delta. On the river, all sorts of boats ply the water, from small fishing boats to cargo barges loaded with fruits and vegetables. Observe a little of river life as it plays out on the banks - noting the people and the stunning landscapes - while your attentive crew serves you tea and seasonal fruits.
At Tan Phong Islet board a little rowing boat to explore the canal's hidden mangroves. Enjoy a peaceful short cruise across the mangrove, discovering many different types of fruit trees. In sunny mornings, the place is impressive, the sunrays make its way through the tree leaves, giving a special atmosphere to the mangrove.
Return to your sampan. Your next stop is an ancient house built in the 19th century. Follow your guide for a short guided visit. Back to your boat, continue your exploration of the Mekong Delta. Along the way, make stops to learn more about local cottage industries, including factories for the production of coconut candy and puffed rice (the local equivalent of popcorn), products that provide a living for the river people.
Your cruise ends at the restaurant. Lunch is served in an exquisite colonial-style villa set in a lush tropical garden by the river, surrounded by fruit trees, giving you a sense of life during the Indochina of yesteryear.
After lunch in a local restaurant, rejoin your coach for the return drive to the pier and your ship.

From the pier, board your coach for a 50-minute drive to the eastern suburb of Saigon. You will appreciate the quiet, rural area for your first stop.
With your guide, start your visit of the Ao Dai Museum. The ao dai is the Vietnamese national dress, symbol of all the beauty and elegance of Vietnamese women. This dress is for Vietnam what the kimono is for Japan. Enter the peaceful garden and reach the long house where you will discover 3 permanent exhibitions showcasing the history and the variety of ao dai. This atypical museum was dreamed up and created by Sy Hoang, a famous Vietnamese designer who wanted to create a place where visitors could discover the history of Vietnamese clothing and relax in the garden. After the visit, enjoy a refreshment and discover, on your own, the charms of the garden, with its ancient wooden architecture, bamboo bridges, rice fields and lotus ponds.
Re-board your coach and head back to Saigon. En route, stop to a local greeting workshop which supports local disabled people by organising artistic workshop for visitors who create their own vietnamese postcard. A fun and supportive moment awaits you there.

From the pier, start a panoramic city tour of Ho Chi Minh City, the former Saigon. A witness to the independence of Vietnam, this city changes as fast as the Vietnamese economy develops. The impressive contrast between the traditional and modernity is an eloquent example of how the Saigonese want to keep their identity despite of globalisation.
During this city tour, including photo stops, you will discover the former Presidential Palace, now known as Reunification Hall. This historic building was made famous when a Vietnamese liberation tank crashed through its front gates on 30 April 1975, signalling the end of the Vietnam War. You will also see the famous Notre Dame Cathedral, a neoclassical structure dating back to the 19th century. On the other side of the square, the Central Post Office proudly shows its colonial style outside, and hides rare ancient maps decorated on the dome inside the building.
Your next stop is the Thich Quang Duc monk monument. The monument is dedicated to a monk making the ultimate sacrifice for his faith. Continue to a coffee shop to taste a local coffee. As the second producer of coffee worlwide, this break in Vietnam shouldn't be missed! There are many options on offer but nothing is quite like the original Vietnamese filtered coffee combined with condensed milk.
Then, you will head to the Fito Museum. Even though theirs is a modern society, many Vietnamese still use herbs to heal wounds or treat chronic diseases. You will visit the very interesting Herbal Medicine Museum to see how trees, herbs, and other plants are exploited for medical purposes.
Afterward, your guide will take you to the famous Ho Thi Ky flower market. Discover the maze of sights and scents, understand the significance and importance of the flowers in the local culture.
Finally, you will visit a local lacquerware shop and learn about this craft before rejoining the pier.

Follow in the footsteps of The Quiet American, one of the most iconic novels set in Vietnam, depicting the end of French colonialism and the beginning involvement of American forces in Vietnam on this half-day tour.
Start your tour by being picked up and transferred to the Continental Hotel. From here, head to the Notre Dame Cathedral, which Graham Greene famously described as "the hideous pink cathedral" despite its beautiful design. Continue through Dong Khoi Street (also known as Rue Catinat) where you will pass by Direction de la Police et de la Sûreté, the workplace of Inspector Vigot who investigates the death of the title character, CIA Agent Alden Pyle.
Next, see the site where the last helicopter famously left Saigon, taking the last people out of southern Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Turn down Charner/Nguy?n Hu? boulevard towards the Rex Hotel, one of Saigon’s most luxurious hotels and the headquarters of the United States military command’s daily press conference. From here, return back down Dong Khoi Street and pass the Theatre Grand Saigon, a symbol of 60s Saigon.
Enjoy a refreshing cocktail at the Majestic Hotel, where Quiet American British journalist, Thomas Fowler, would often come for drinks.
Continue to the poignant War Remnants Museum. Here you learn more about the conflict and the lasting effects of the war in Vietnam today.
Finally, stop off at a nearby bustling market and one of the oldest in Ho Chi Minh City: Ben Thanh. Here you will find many hawkers offering their wares from fresh fruit and vegetables, local coffees and teas to take home, traditional clothing and fresh fruit smoothies.

From the pier, you will meet your local guide and board your coach. You will start your exploration of Con Dao.
Con Dao, before being the peaceful island you will visit today, was the largest and oldest prison in Vietnam. In 113 years of activity (1862-1975), thousands of Vietnamese communists were imprisoned and banished here. Notorious for its prison cells, named tiger cages, which were built secretly in 1940, the prison was the final destination of many political prisoners, brought here to be tortured. The prison is hidden in the deep forest, so that no prisoners would have any chance to determine the prison's location and be able to escape.
First, visit the hictoric 914 pier, which was used to welcome all ships coming from the mainland to transfer the prisoners. 914 prisoners died here to build this pier due to hash conditions of working and iron-fisted disciplinary actions. Then, head to the Con Dao Prison, often described as hell on Earth. It was one of the most brutal prisons in human history.
Upon arrival at the prison location, your guide will explain you the role of this island during the war and will tell you the harrowing story of how prisoners were treated and tortured. This place is the witness of the dark time of Vietnam history but also the witness of prisoners hope and resilience. You will pass by Phu Hai Prison, also named Bagne 1 which is the most ancient and the biggest prison of Con Dao.
Then, you will visit Hang Duong, the largest cemetery of the island. Continue to Phu Tuong Prison, which is also known as Tiger Cells. Walk around wit your guide to see the tiger cages and imagine the serious imprisonment methods used.
Finally, stop at a local market and then a local coffee shop and enjoy a cup of local coffee and relax or discuss with your guide.
