Born in Kroonstad, South Africa, Levy Sekgapane studied with Kamal Khan and Hanna van Niekerk at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town. In the course of his young career, he has already developed two signature roles: Il Conte Almaviva in Il BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, which he sang in a new production at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival, the Opéra national de Paris, the Vienna State Opera, the German Opera in Berlin and the Opéra national de Bordeaux. And Don Ramiro in LA CENERENTOLA, which he sang in a new production at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, as well as at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, the Munich State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Los Angeles Opera, the Lyric Opera in Boston and the Zurich Opera, where he shared the stage with Cecilia Bartoli.
He also made his debut as Nadir in LES PECHEURS DE PERLES (Cape Town Opera), Ernesto in DON PASQUALE (Vienna State Opera, Teatro Petruzzelli Bari), Rodrigo in Rossini's OTELLO (Frankfurt Opera), Arturo in I PURITANI (Theatre des Champs-Elysees), Elvino in La SONNAMBULA (Gärtnerplatztheater Munich), Arbace in IDOMENEO (Salzburg Festival), Idreno in SEMIRAMIDE (German Opera Berlin), Belmonte in DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées) and Jonas in TIME OF OUR SINGING (La Monnaie Brussels).
In concert, he has performed with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra in Madrid and the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. Levy is the first prize winner of the Belvedere International Singing Competition (2015), the Monserrat Caballé Singing Competition (2015) and Placido Domingo's OPERALIA (2017).
