The Portuguese soprano Raquel Camarinha was born in Braga in 1986. She began her vocal studies in 2000, having completed the Secondary Singing Course in 2004. In 2009, she completed the Undergraduate Course in Music at the University of Aveiro and completed in 2011 her Masters Degree at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Paris, in the class of Chantal Mathias, obtaining in 2013 two postgraduate Artist Diplomas in both Singing and Contemporary Repertoire, at the CNSMDP.
Winner of several national and international awards, she won in 2011 the 1st prize at the Luísa Todi National Singing Competition in Portugal, as well as the Best Female Interpreter Award at the Armel Opera Competition, in Hungary. With pianist Satoshi Kubo, she won the Prix Duo at the VI Concours International Chant-Piano Nadia et Lili Boulanger.
Her repertoire embraces works from the Baroque to the contemporary. In opera, Raquel Camarinha has interpreted Eurilla (Haydn’s Orlando Paladino, at Théâtre du Châtelet), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Zerlina (D. Giovanni), Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers), among others. She has performed as a soloist in oratorio works such as Bach’s Matthäuspassion, Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten and Die Schöpfung, Mahler’s 4th Symphonie, Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ, Orff’s Carmina Burana and Pärt’s Stabat Mater. She also develops great interest in new repertoire and has premiered several works, among which two operas by Luís Tinoco. Evil Machines (2008) and Paint Me (2010).
