Andy Richardson

I am a marine biologist working at the University of Hull (UK). My primary research interests focus around marine ecology, and the interaction of marine systems with human activities such as fishing. During my career I have served in variety of roles such as a lecturer, SCUBA diving supervisor, research scientist, director of fisheries, and intelligence analyst. Of particular note was my role as Chief Scientist in the collaborative, and successful, effort to establish the Ascension Island Marine Protected Area, providing protection for over 440,000km2 of the Atlantic Ocean. My research has taken me from the tropics to the polar seas, investigating and studying everything from rocky shore mussel habitat to oceanic shark behaviour, and from deep sea coral carbon sequestration to seabird movement and ecology.
