Ideal clothes for life on board:
During the days spent on board, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes or casual outfits. The entire ship is air-conditioned, so a light sweater, a light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. When moving about in the public areas of the ship and the decks, light but comfortable shoes are recommended.

Sie kreuzen auf dem größten Süßwassersee der USA, der dem Bundesstaat Michigan seinen Namen gegeben hat, einem der vier Staaten, die an den 500 km langen und 200 km breiten Lake Michigan angrenzen. Die ersten Siedler ließen sich gegen Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts im Süden nieder, am aktuellen Standort der Großstadt Chicago. Die Küsten, die sich über 2.600 km erstrecken, sind von wilden Waldlandschaften in schillernden Farben, Felsen, goldenen Sandstränden und endlosen Dünen gesäumt. Im Norden ragen wunderschöne, vom Wind gepeitschte Inseln aus dem smaragdgrünen Wasser. Die 8 km lange Mackinac Bridge, die über die Wasserstraße zwischen dem Lake Michigan und dem Lake Huron führt, gehört zu den längsten Hängebrücken der Welt.

Er bildet die natürliche Grenze zwischen dem amerikanischen Staat Michigan und der kanadischen Provinz Ontario. Er besteht aus dem Hauptsee, der Saginaw-Bucht, dem Nordkanal und der Georgsbucht und beherbergt etwa 30.000 Inseln. Den Besucher besticht er mit einer Vielzahl von Küstenlandschaften und einzigartigen Ausblicken. Vom Schiff aus können Sie die wilde Schönheit der bewaldeten und zuweilen steilen Küste der Insel Manitoulin oder die spektakulären Klippen der Bruce-Halbinsel bewundern.

Upon your arrival, you'll be greeted by the hotel's resident historian, who will take you back in time as you marvel at the art, antiques, and interior design of this masterpiece of a property.
After wandering these beautiful surroundings, you'll be escorted to a private seating for a delightful tea complete with miniature sandwiches, scones, pastries; as well as sherry and champagne to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Historical Sault Sainte Marie walking tour
At the pier, join your guide for a leisurely guided stroll through the historic sites of Sault Sainte Marie.
Your guide will narrate your walk through the city before on your way to the Heritage Discovery Centre where two of the oldest stone buildings northwest of Toronto sit. Both buildings have been restored to depict the lives of their prominent inhabitants.
Your guided walk will continue to the Sault Sainte Marie Historic Museum where you'll spend time exploring the exhibits on the development of Sault Sainte Marie through the years, as well as the city's relationship with open water amongst other displays.
After the visit, continue on to The Queens Tarts, where you'll enjoy a traditional Canadian buttertart.
Next, you'll head a short distance back to the pier.

Lake Superior coastal highlights
Located at the heart of the Great Lakes, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is one of the oldest settlements in North America, and an international border city and gateway to Lake Superior. Named as one of the top ten drives in North America, this spectacular drive will take you north west along the Trans-Canada Highway, through a visually stunning portion of the Canadian Shield along the north coast of Lake Superior. Your full day scenic tour will include the following stops (order of the visits may vary):
Chippewa Falls: the midpoint of the Trans-Canada Highway and an iconic location of the famous Canadian painters the Group of Seven. You will have time to take pictures of the falls right from the parking lot or follow one of the trails to get a close-up view.
Lake Superior Interpretive Centre: a unique facility located on the captivating shore of the lake. Dedicated to the history and geography of Lake Superior, it offers great coastal hiking trails right off the site. You will be able to check out the Group of Seven exhibit or outdoor art easel, representing their time in the Algoma Region. Here, you may choose to visit the interpretive centre followed by a short and easy walk to the beach or take a 40-minute hike to the Awausee Falls. This hike represents 3 km (1.8 mi) and the elevation gain to the first lookout at Ausawee Falls is about 70 metres (230 ft).
Lunch will be served at a typical Lodge and Cookhouse situated directly along the shores of Lake Superior.
Canal National Historic Site: the Sault Ste. Marie Canal, built in 1895, was the world’s longest lock, the first to operate using electricity and the last link in an all-Canadian navigational chain from the Atlantic to Lake Superior. Today the Canal, used by recreational craft, is a great spot for boat-watching and picnics.

This 8-hour tour includes 4 hours of scenic driving by air-conditioned coach. The lunch venue and meal are typical and best available in the area. The tour involves approximately 4 km (2.4 mi) of walking if you participate on the hike to the Awausee Falls, less than 1 km of walking without the hike. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes, protect yourself from the rain and bring an insect repellent.

Hiking the Cup & Saucer trail
The Cup and Saucer Trail, located 18 kilometres west of the port of Little Current, is one of Manitoulin Island's premier tourist destinations. This unique hiking trail offers a panoramic view from 250-foot high cliff lookouts.
From the pier, board your coach for the scenic 30-minute drive to the foot of the trail. The hike takes about one hour to reach the summit and another hour to hike back down to the parking lot.
At 352 metres (1,160 feet), the Cup and Saucer is the highest point of Manitoulin island. The cliffs are at an altitude of 70 meters (230 feet) and the view on the forests and lakes are just incredible. Depending on the season, enjoy the fall colours at their best.
Upon returning to the base of the trail, you will be treated to a selection of Canadian snacks and beverages.

Participants must be in reasonably good physical condition as some sections of the trail are steep and a good pair of hiking boots is recommended. The paths can be muddy and slippery when wet. The entire trail is approximately 9.5 km (6 miles) in length and takes about 2.5 hours to complete, with an elevation gain of 70 metres (230 feet), allowing for plenty of time for photos. The minimum age is 12-years-old to participate.

Traditions of Manitoulin island
From the pier, board your coach for the 30-minute narrated transfer. Learn about the world's largest freshwater island: Manitoulin Island, its rich native and nautical history, as well as other interesting commentary on the way of life.
The first stop is at the Immaculate Conception Church, a spiritual focal point of the native community that brings together the beliefs and customs of both the native Ojibwe culture and the Catholic Church.
Cross the street and visit the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation for an interpretive tour of the heritage museum and art gallery. There, you will have the opportunity to attend to a demonstration of indigenous crafts, such as traditional beadwork or dreamcatcher.
In the amphitheatre, after a smudging ceremony, you will attend a traditional aboriginal dance and drum presentation. Called “Pow-Wow” by the Native American people it is their way to honour their culture and heritage, and a secular tradition helping to gather people from different countries together.
The excursion concludes with a 30-minute return transfer back to town.

Kayaking on Kagawong River
From the pier, board your coach for the 30-minute drive to the kayaking centre. On arrival, meet your instructor for a safety briefing, orientation and information on the river and Lake Kagawong. The Kagawong River flows from Lake Kagawong and empties into Mudge Bay on the North Channel of Lake Huron. The river falls over a limestone bluff at Bridal Veil Falls and is one of the most visited and beautiful waterfalls in Northern Ontario. This is the same geological formation as the mighty Niagara Falls.
You will be kayaking on the first part of the Kagawong River, which flows in a northerly direction out of the Lake and passes under Highway 540, just above Bridal Veil Falls. Here the water is calm, the current is gentle, the wetlands on either side of the river provide cover from prevailing westerly winds and the water is no more than 1.5 metre deep.
While silently kayaking the clean, cool waters of the Kagawong River, you might see beaver, muskrat and waterfowl migrating from the Canadian Arctic to warmer winter climates in the south.
At the conclusion of the one-hour kayaking ride, you will walk the riverside trail to the Bridal Veil Falls viewing platform. Not only will you have a great view on the falls, but also on the river, which is especially interesting in late September – mid-October, when there is a salmon run of thousands of fish.
On the way back to Little Current, a stop will be made at Chocolate Works, a family owned business. Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa or coffee and reward your kayaking efforts with a taste of small batch Manitoulin Chocolate.

Killbear Park
From the pier, walk a short distance to your coach for a 30-minute drive to Killbear park.
Located on the Eastern Shore of Georgian Bay, listed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this park offers a diverse landscape from the granite rocks to the soft sandy beaches and the thick green forests. The fluctuating water levels of the Great Lakes have created a varied range of shoreline ecosystems.
Follow your guide on a one and a half hour walking tour through the park.
Learn about Killbear’s rocks of today which were once buried deep under a mountain range called the Grenville Mountains, and rivalled today’s Himalayas in size. The park’s predominant rock type is gneiss not granite. Signs that the glaciers scoured Killbear are impressed on its rocks and you can learn how to read them. With its mix of sandy beaches, rugged shoreline, windswept pines and views of the 30,000 islands, there are scenic views everywhere at Killbear.
Continue to the Visitor Centre, showcasing the dramatic Precambrian Shield. The Visitor Centre has exhibits pertaining to the flora and fauna, as well as the local history and geology of the area. The park has a live Massasauga rattlesnake and Eastern fox-snake on display. These two animals are both classed as species at risk and are listed as threatened in Ontario. They are the unofficial mascots of the park, and the park has undertaken years of research into these animals. The Visitor Centre portion of the visit include a self-guided tour of the Visitor Centre, and a walk along a 100-metre smooth path to the rugged rocky shoreline for a discussion on the geology of the area.

On the way, you will drive along the beautiful Niagara River, site of the historic battles of the War of 1812. A stop will be made to view the majestic Niagara Falls. On arrival at the dramatic crest of the Horseshoe Falls at Table Rock, enjoy a leisurely guided stroll along the promenade.
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York. From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America that has a vertical drop of more than 50 metres (165 feet).

You will drive past the hydroelectric station along the Niagara River. As you drive along the scenic Niagara Parkway, you will see the fertile agricultural vineyards and catch a glimpse of some of the magnificent new-world vineyards on one side and the state of New York across the river on the other.
Niagara-on-the-Lake, the flower-filled, tree-lined old town, features 19th century buildings, mainly along Queen Street. Originally settled by the British and Loyalists (those who were loyal to the British, fleeing the United States), this town was named Newark and was the capital of Upper Canada (later to be known as Ontario). The capital later moved across the lake to York (Toronto) and the town became a sleepy village until its resurgence in the early 1960s, when it started to host plays by George Bernard Shaw. It is now a popular venue for theatre-goers wishing to experience a quaint town-like feel.
On arrival, you will disembark your coach at the parking lot and walk with your guide to the centre of town, where he will explain the history of the development of this delightful community. From here you will have some time at leisure to further discover this little town on your own. Afterwards, you will walk back to the parking lot or take the local shuttle.

Drive past the hydro-electric station and make a picture stop at the scenic Whirlpool Rapids. Follow your guide to the viewing platform to look for any passing ships at Lock 3.
Continue south and drive along the historic Welland Canal, which is 42 km (26.09 miles) long and was built in 1824 to allow ships to pass around the mighty Niagara Falls.

Next, you’ll have the chance to explore Millennium Park, the beautiful centrepiece of downtown Chicago. Millennium Park boasts one of the most impressive collections of public art in the world. First planned in 1997 as a way to create new parkland in Grant Park and transform unsightly railroad tracks and parking lots, Millennium Park has evolved into the most significant millennium project in the world. Here you’ll find the Concert Pavilion designed by Frank Gehry, the beautiful Lurie Gardens and the beloved “Bean”, (Anish Kapoor’s “Cloud Gate”) an enormous stainless-steel sculpture reflecting the skyline and a favourite spot for photos.
You will continue your city exploration with a Chicago River Architecture Cruise. Afterwards, continue to explore the history and beautiful architecture of Chicago. On the Gold Coast near Lake Michigan, you'll see the mansions of early industrialists who built here after the Great Chicago Fire. Continue to trendy Lincoln Park to view the lovely gardens and discover how the city has kept its promise that the lakefront would forever be free and open to all.

Then you will go next door to an intimate Jazz Club. Sit back and enjoy some of the best musicians in the city in this "listening room" environment where jazz is revered. Day 3 - Chicago
Start your day with a trip to the leafy suburb of Oak Park. This is where the architect Frank Lloyd lived and worked. The first homes he designed are found on the lovely streets here. You will visit his Home and Studio for an in depth look at the master who was the forerunner of modern home design.
Return to Chicago to enjoy lunch in a local restaurant.
Next, discover the Wabash Arts Corridor. Discover wonderful murals inserted into the urban setting of the vibrant South Loop. Whether they are humorous, whimsical, or profound, they all tell you something about the artist and yourself. You will also see some stunning, long forgotten architecture on "Motor Row" where automobile showrooms were as beautiful as the vehicles they sold. See how "adaptive reuse" of factory buildings now creates a neighbourhood of loft style homes for the modern era.
In the same neighbourhood, visit Blues Heaven at Chess Records, a small museum honouring the Blues legends that made Chicago famous. Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Etta James, and Chuck Berry all recorded here. The Rolling Stones took their name from a Muddy Waters song and recorded "2120 S. Michigan Avenue" there in 1964 as an homage to this great bluesman.

Historical Sault Sainte Marie walking tour
At the pier, join your guide for a leisurely guided stroll through the historic sites of Sault Sainte Marie.
Your guide will narrate your walk through the city before on your way to the Heritage Discovery Centre where two of the oldest stone buildings northwest of Toronto sit. Both buildings have been restored to depict the lives of their prominent inhabitants.

Lake Superior coastal highlights
Located at the heart of the Great Lakes, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is one of the oldest settlements in North America, and an international border city and gateway to Lake Superior. Named as one of the top ten drives in North America, this spectacular drive will take you north west along the Trans-Canada Highway, through a visually stunning portion of the Canadian Shield along the north coast of Lake Superior. Your full day scenic tour will include the following stops (order of the visits may vary):
Chippewa Falls: the midpoint of the Trans-Canada Highway and an iconic location of the famous Canadian painters the Group of Seven. You will have time to take pictures of the falls right from the parking lot or follow one of the trails to get a close-up view.
Lake Superior Interpretive Centre: a unique facility located on the captivating shore of the lake. Dedicated to the history and geography of Lake Superior, it offers great coastal hiking trails right off the site. You will be able to check out the Group of Seven exhibit or outdoor art easel, representing their time in the Algoma Region. Here, you may choose to visit the interpretive centre followed by a short and easy walk to the beach or take a 40-minute hike to the Awausee Falls. This hike represents 3 km (1.8 mi) and the elevation gain to the first lookout at Ausawee Falls is about 70 metres (230 ft).
Lunch will be served at a typical Lodge and Cookhouse situated directly along the shores of Lake Superior.
Canal National Historic Site: the Sault Ste. Marie Canal, built in 1895, was the world’s longest lock, the first to operate using electricity and the last link in an all-Canadian navigational chain from the Atlantic to Lake Superior. Today the Canal, used by recreational craft, is a great spot for boat-watching and picnics.

Hiking the Cup & Saucer trail
The Cup and Saucer Trail, located 18 kilometres west of the port of Little Current, is one of Manitoulin Island's premier tourist destinations. This unique hiking trail offers a panoramic view from 250-foot high cliff lookouts.
From the pier, board your coach for the scenic 30-minute drive to the foot of the trail. The hike takes about one hour to reach the summit and another hour to hike back down to the parking lot.
At 352 metres (1,160 feet), the Cup and Saucer is the highest point of Manitoulin island. The cliffs are at an altitude of 70 meters (230 feet) and the view on the forests and lakes are just incredible. Depending on the season, enjoy the fall colours at their best.
Upon returning to the base of the trail, you will be treated to a selection of Canadian snacks and beverages.

Participants must be in reasonably good physical condition as some sections of the trail are steep and a good pair of hiking boots is recommended. The paths can be muddy and slippery when wet. The entire trail is approximately 9.5 km (6 miles) in length and takes about 2.5 hours to complete, with an elevation gain of 70 metres (230 feet), allowing for plenty of time for photos. The minimum age is 12-years-old to participate.

Traditions of Manitoulin island
From the pier, board your coach for the 30-minute narrated transfer. Learn about the world's largest freshwater island: Manitoulin Island, its rich native and nautical history, as well as other interesting commentary on the way of life.
The first stop is at the Immaculate Conception Church, a spiritual focal point of the native community that brings together the beliefs and customs of both the native Ojibwe culture and the Catholic Church.
Cross the street and visit the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation for an interpretive tour of the heritage museum and art gallery. There, you will have the opportunity to attend to a demonstration of indigenous crafts, such as traditional beadwork or dreamcatcher.
In the amphitheatre, after a smudging ceremony, you will attend a traditional aboriginal dance and drum presentation. Called “Pow-Wow” by the Native American people it is their way to honour their culture and heritage, and a secular tradition helping to gather people from different countries together.
The excursion concludes with a 30-minute return transfer back to town.

Kayaking on Kagawong River
From the pier, board your coach for the 30-minute drive to the kayaking centre. On arrival, meet your instructor for a safety briefing, orientation and information on the river and Lake Kagawong. The Kagawong River flows from Lake Kagawong and empties into Mudge Bay on the North Channel of Lake Huron. The river falls over a limestone bluff at Bridal Veil Falls and is one of the most visited and beautiful waterfalls in Northern Ontario. This is the same geological formation as the mighty Niagara Falls.
You will be kayaking on the first part of the Kagawong River, which flows in a northerly direction out of the Lake and passes under Highway 540, just above Bridal Veil Falls. Here the water is calm, the current is gentle, the wetlands on either side of the river provide cover from prevailing westerly winds and the water is no more than 1.5 metre deep.
While silently kayaking the clean, cool waters of the Kagawong River, you might see beaver, muskrat and waterfowl migrating from the Canadian Arctic to warmer winter climates in the south.
At the conclusion of the one-hour kayaking ride, you will walk the riverside trail to the Bridal Veil Falls viewing platform. Not only will you have a great view on the falls, but also on the river, which is especially interesting in late September – mid-October, when there is a salmon run of thousands of fish.
On the way back to Little Current, a stop will be made at Chocolate Works, a family owned business. Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa or coffee and reward your kayaking efforts with a taste of small batch Manitoulin Chocolate.

Killbear Park
From the pier, walk a short distance to your coach for a 30-minute drive to Killbear park.
Located on the Eastern Shore of Georgian Bay, listed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this park offers a diverse landscape from the granite rocks to the soft sandy beaches and the thick green forests. The fluctuating water levels of the Great Lakes have created a varied range of shoreline ecosystems.
Follow your guide on a one and a half hour walking tour through the park.
Learn about Killbear’s rocks of today which were once buried deep under a mountain range called the Grenville Mountains, and rivalled today’s Himalayas in size. The park’s predominant rock type is gneiss not granite. Signs that the glaciers scoured Killbear are impressed on its rocks and you can learn how to read them. With its mix of sandy beaches, rugged shoreline, windswept pines and views of the 30,000 islands, there are scenic views everywhere at Killbear.
Continue to the Visitor Centre, showcasing the dramatic Precambrian Shield. The Visitor Centre has exhibits pertaining to the flora and fauna, as well as the local history and geology of the area. The park has a live Massasauga rattlesnake and Eastern fox-snake on display. These two animals are both classed as species at risk and are listed as threatened in Ontario. They are the unofficial mascots of the park, and the park has undertaken years of research into these animals. The Visitor Centre portion of the visit include a self-guided tour of the Visitor Centre, and a walk along a 100-metre smooth path to the rugged rocky shoreline for a discussion on the geology of the area.

The aircrafts used are 4-seater Found Bush Hawk (one seat next to pilot, three seats across the back) and 3-seater Cessna single-engine (one seat next to pilot, two in the back). You will be asked to give your total weight. Seat assignment will be given by the pilot to evenly distribute weight and balance. Participants must be able to climb in/out of the aircraft without assistance, good mobility is required.

From the pier, board your coach for a scenic drive through Ontario's interior on the Trans-Canada Highway as you cross inland lakes and rivers to Huckleberry Rock Lookout, where a loop-trail hike will bring you to one of the best views for admiring the fall colours.
From your vantage point you'll find stunning panoramic views over nature and the exposed pink granite, quite possibly some of the oldest granite on earth. After enjoying the views, continue on your motorcoach to Ontario's oldest cranberry farm for a signature Ontario experience.

Niagara falls & Niagara-on-the-Lake
From the pier, you will board your coach for the 45-minute scenic drive to Table Rock near the Niagara Falls.
On the way, you will drive along the beautiful Niagara River, site of the historic battles of the War of 1812. A stop will be made to view the majestic Niagara Falls. On arrival at the dramatic crest of the Horseshoe Falls at Table Rock, enjoy a leisurely guided stroll along the promenade.
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York. From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America that has a vertical drop of more than 50 metres (165 feet).
After the guided walk, you will enjoy some time at leisure to take more pictures or to visit one of the many souvenir shops. At the designated time and meeting point, you will walk to the coach with your guide (the coach will have repositioned from the drop-off location).
You will drive past the hydroelectric station along the Niagara River. As you drive along the scenic Niagara Parkway, you will see the fertile agricultural vineyards and catch a glimpse of some of the magnificent new-world vineyards on one side and the state of New York across the river on the other.
Niagara-on-the-Lake, the flower-filled, tree-lined old town, features 19th century buildings, mainly along Queen Street. Originally settled by the British and Loyalists (those who were loyal to the British, fleeing the United States), this town was named Newark and was the capital of Upper Canada (later to be known as Ontario). The capital later moved across the lake to York (Toronto) and the town became a sleepy village until its resurgence in the early 1960s, when it started to host plays by George Bernard Shaw. It is now a popular venue for theatre-goers wishing to experience a quaint town-like feel.
On arrival, you will disembark your coach at the parking lot and walk with your guide to the centre of town, where he will explain the history of the development of this delightful community. From here you will have some time at leisure to further discover this little town on your own. Afterwards, you will walk back to the parking lot or take the local shuttle.

Drive past the hydro-electric station and make a picture stop at the scenic Whirlpool Rapids. At the Welland Canal Centre, view a 15-minute film that highlights the creation and the importance of the Welland Canal. Follow your guide to the viewing platform to look for any passing ships at Lock 3.
Continue south and drive along the historic Welland Canal, which is 42 km (26.09 miles) long and was built in 1824 to allow ships to pass around the mighty Niagara Falls.

Continue with the visit of Evergreen Brick works located in the Don Valley, outside of downtown Toronto. The Don River and the surrounding Valley has a rich history in shaping and influencing Toronto’s identity. Human settlement can be traced back as far as 7,000 years ago. Slate tools left behind by the Indigenous Peoples were discovered in 1886 during road building.
From 1889 to 1984, Evergreen Brick Works was home to the Don Valley Brick Works factory, one of Canada’s pre-eminent brickyards. Restored and revitalized by Evergreen, learn more about the history and geology of this site and how Evergreen transformed it into an award-winning community environmental centre and green technology showcase.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
After lunch, start exploring Graffiti Alley. At a total length of 1 km, this is one of the city’s best examples of vibrant street art and in 2011, was designated as an area of municipal significance with artists receiving financial funding from the organization, StreetARToronto.
Continue with a guided tour of the Distillery District. The Distillery District was the site of the famous Scottish distillers called “Gooderham and Worts”. For many years these industrial buildings were alive with an army of distillers who took the grain arriving from ships in the port of Toronto (where your ship arrived) and carried it in bulk by horse and cart across to the Distillery District. Nowadays the entire industrial complex has been repurposed and is one of Toronto’s main attractions for both citizens living in the city and for visitors from overseas. Enjoy some free time as each building is alive with artisans, restaurants, coffee shops and craft stores and music is often played by local talented artists.
