Tauchen & erster Tauchgang
Begleitung der Tauchgänge
Ihre Tauchgänge werden von unseren PONANT Tauchguides begleitet. Diese werden sich um Ihre Sicherheit und einen reibungslosen Ablauf kümmern. An einigen Tauchplätzen, wie in Naturschutzgebieten oder wenn die örtlichen Vorschriften dies vorschreiben, wird zusätzlich ein lokaler Führer das Tauchen begleiten.
Erforderliches Tauchlevel während dieser Kreuzfahrt
Das erforderliche Niveau für Gäste, die während dieser Kreuzfahrt tauchen möchten, ist PADI Open Water Diver, CMAS 1 Stern oder ein gleichwertiges Zertifikat. Die Zertifizierung, das Tauchlogbuch und ein aktuelles ärztliches Attest (weniger als 12 Monate alt) müssen zu Beginn der Kreuzfahrt den PONANT Tauchguides vorgelegt werden.
Ablauf der Tauchgänge (zertifizierte Taucher)
Der Tauchguide behält sich das Recht vor, die Fähigkeit der Taucher auf maximale Sicherheit zu überprüfen. Da wir an abgelegenen Orten tauchen, werden die Tauchgänge ohne Dekompressionsstopp durchgeführt. Ein Sicherheitsstopp von 3 Minuten bei 5 Metern ist obligatorisch. Die Tiefe, die erreicht werden kann, hängt von der Zertifizierung der Taucher ab:
- Für diejenigen mit PADI Advanced Open Water Diver-Zertifikat (oder einem gleichwertigen Zertifikat) beträgt die maximale Tiefe bis zu 20 Meter.
- Wenn zwei PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (oder gleichwertiges Zertifikat) unabhängig tauchen möchten, müssen sie zuerst eine Einweisung erhalten. Sie müssen Tauchcomputer haben und dürfen maximal eine Tiefe von 20 Metern erreichen.
Ablauf der Schnuppertauchgänge (Tauchanfänger)
Vor dem ersten Tauchgang zeigt Ihnen der Tauchguide die Ausrüstung und erklärt, wie unter Wasser mit Handzeichen kommuniziert wird und wie das Atmen durch einen Atemregler funktioniert. Sobald Sie im Wasser sind und mit der entsprechenden Ausrüstung ausgestattet sind, lernen Sie, wie Sie einige Minuten lang durch Ihren Atemregler an der Oberfläche atmen. Wenn der Tauchguide das Gefühlt hat, dass Sie bereit sind, taucht er mit Ihnen etwa 20 Minuten lang bis zu einer Tiefe von maximal 6 Metern.
Dauer der Tauchgänge
Die Tauchgänge dauern 2 bis 3 Stunden, einschließlich der Fahrt zum Tauchplatz und des Tauchens. Diese Dauer kann je nach Standort, Taucherniveau, Wetterbedingungen und Teilnehmerzahl variieren. Für erfahrene Taucher variiert die Tauchdauer je nach Ort, Erfahrung und Verbrauch des Tauchers zwischen 35 und 60 Minuten.

The fauna of the Caribbean Sea is very varied. During the different dives, divers can observe various species of benthic fauna such as French angel fish, queen angel fish, spotted drums, puffer fish, parrots fish, and pelagic fauna such as spotted eagle ray, barracudas, horse eyes jackfish, as well as fixed wildlife such as gorgonians and barrel sponges.

Edzna site & Hacienda Huayamon
From the pier, board your air-conditioned coach for the 1-hour drive to the archaeological site of Edzná.
Edzná was occupied very early, from around 600 BC, but it took until 200 AD before it developed into a major city. It reached its peak influence in the late Classic period, between 600 and 900, and gradually waned in importance until being all but abandoned in the early 15th century. The decline and eventual abandonment of Edzná still remains a mystery today. Edzná is a fascinating Mayan city that has a unique combination of styles and features, reflecting its position at a crossroad of trade and cultural influences. Its roof combs and corbelled arches are reminiscent of those at Yaxchilán and Palenque, several buildings are in the Puuc style and the giant stone masks are characteristic of the Petén-style architecture of southern Campeche and northern Guatemala. Located in a very dry area, Edzná also has one of the most sophisticated Mayan systems for channelling and retaining water.
Follow your guide and start your visit with the small museum displaying original Mayan stone carvings found at the site, representing deities, warriors and Mayan lords.
Then walk to the main square, step up a wall and find yourself right in front of the main building “Edificio de cinco pisos” or the 5-storey building. Continue to the Ball game court and the Temple of the Mascarones (temple of the masks).
Re-board your coach for the short drive to the Old Uayamon Hacienda, founded in the late 16th century; its main occupation was bovine and porcine breeding. Along the years Uayamon diversified its production and commercialisation. By the 18th century it was considered one of the most important haciendas in the region, due to its varied production; besides cattle and corn, henequen, sugar cane were also cultivated. Nowadays, Uayamon is a romantic hideaway amidst overgrown ruins and dense jungle. Where former workers quarters once were, are now luxurious rooms. Refreshments will be served here before your transfer back to the ship.
- This tour involves approximately 2 km (1.3 mile) of walking over uneven ground and steps. The site is in a forest-like setting with many exposed roots and rocks. You are allowed to climb some of the buildings but the steps are very high. This tour is not recommended for guests with mobility challenges. Wear comfortable walking shoes, protect yourself from the sun and insects. Bring along a light sweater for the coach as the air-conditioning can be strong. Only local currency and USD are accepted for purchases. There is a 3 USD fee for use of video camera to be paid directly at the site.

From the pier, board your air-conditioned coach for the 2-hour and thirty minutes journey into the heart of the Mayan world.
You will visit Mexico’s most famous archaeological site, Chichen Itza. Named for the large cenotes (natural wells fed by underground rivers) on the site that provided the otherwise dry landscape with life-giving water, Chichen Itza is an iconic example of the elaborate Mayan architecture. An important city in the Mayan region between 600 AD and about 900 AD, Chichen Itza reflects different periods of architecture as well as different regional influences.
Follow your guide and see the most famous structures including the pyramid shaped “el Castillo” that was built in accordance with the Mayan calendar and with their extensive knowledge of astronomy. Xunantunich archaeological site
From the pier, board your coach for a 2-hour panoramic drive, through small villages, each with their own quaint personality. As you approach the site, you’ll pass the larger towns of Santa Elena and San Ignacio. Then, embark a local ferry for a 5-minute ride across a small river to access the remote ruins.
Xunantunich Mayan archaeological site was a major ceremonial centre during the Classic Period and is composed of six major plazas, surrounded by more than 25 temples and palaces. Located on a natural limestone ridge, the site provides panoramic views of the hilly Cayo District and is situated just 3.2 km (2 miles) from the Guatemala border. The largest temple “El Castillo”, excavated and partially restored, is famous for its frieze, a banded stucco decoration that at one time extended around the entire pyramid. During your 1½-hour guided tour, you will also visit the site’s three plazas and partially excavated ball court.
Before leaving the site, spend some time at the display centre with your guide.
At the end of your visit, board the ferry again for the ride back to your awaiting coach. A 10-minute drive will take you to the city of San Ignacio, where you will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. Next, reboard your coach for the 2-hour return drive to the pier and your ship.

Scenic wildlife river cruise
Enjoy a wildlife adventure where you will have a chance to observe manatee dolphin, crocodiles, iguanas and many species of aquatic birds.
After embarking a local boat, your experienced captain will head out of the harbour and along the Belize City coastline on a short run to the Belize River. Enjoy the scenic ride along the colourful seafront while you enter the mouth of the Belize River after an approximately 15-minute journey.
During 1 h 15 cruise slowly along the calm waters, along the jungle-covered river bank, in pursuit of the many different species of wildlife that live in and along this winding tropical waterway. Your guide will help you keep a sharp look-out for crocodiles, manatees, and iguanas, numerous species of colourful birds and even, on occasion, a playful dolphin or two that have come up the river in search of a meal.

Lamanai Mayan site & New River
Board your comfortable, air-conditioned coach for the approximately 1¼ hour drive to the river outpost accompanied by your guide, who will share Belize’s rich cultural and ecological heritage with you.
Upon arrival, you will have a quick restroom break before boarding a local boat for the 1½-hour ride up the New River towards Lamanai Mayan site. Keep your eyes open and your cameras ready as crocodiles, iguanas, a variety of species of birds and even a troop of howler monkeys are just some of the wildlife that might make an appearance for you.
On approaching the entrance of the New River Lagoon, the ruins of the high temple rise into view, welcoming you to the ancient Mayan city. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before visiting the ruins. For 1½ hours, discover this hidden world still surrounded by pristine jungle, and where elite rulers are buried in magnificent temples and sacred deities are immortalised in stone images. Lamanai is a Mesoamerican archaeological site, and was once a major city of the Maya civilisation. It is renowned for its exceptionally long occupation, spanning three millennia beginning in the Early Preclassic Maya period and continuing through the Spanish and British Colonial periods. Unlike most Classic-period sites in the southern Maya lowlands, Lamanai was not abandoned at the end of the 10th century AD.

You will depart this morning for the famous maya site of Tulum, built on a small cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. This Maya site may formerly have been known by the name Zama, meaning City of Dawn, because it stands on a bluff facing east, facing the sunrise. Upon arrival at the site, take a small train to the main entrance. Then your guide will lead you into the City to see the main buildings and show the remaining painted walls as well as the stucco decorations in front of the buildings.
After this visit of Tulum, lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
You will then be transferred to the pier of Playa del Carmen to embark the ferry to Cozumel.

Edzna site & Hacienda Huayamon
From the pier, board your air-conditioned coach for the 1-hour drive to the archaeological site of Edzná.
Edzná was occupied very early, from around 600 BC, but it took until 200 AD before it developed into a major city. It reached its peak influence in the late Classic period, between 600 and 900, and gradually waned in importance until being all but abandoned in the early 15th century. The decline and eventual abandonment of Edzná still remains a mystery today. Edzná is a fascinating Mayan city that has a unique combination of styles and features, reflecting its position at a crossroad of trade and cultural influences. Its roof combs and corbelled arches are reminiscent of those at Yaxchilán and Palenque, several buildings are in the Puuc style and the giant stone masks are characteristic of the Petén-style architecture of southern Campeche and northern Guatemala. Located in a very dry area, Edzná also has one of the most sophisticated Mayan systems for channelling and retaining water.
Follow your guide and start your visit with the small museum displaying original Mayan stone carvings found at the site, representing deities, warriors and Mayan lords.
Then walk to the main square, step up a wall and find yourself right in front of the main building “Edificio de cinco pisos” or the 5-storey building. Continue to the Ball game court and the Temple of the Mascarones (temple of the masks).
Re-board your coach for the short drive to the Old Uayamon Hacienda, founded in the late 16th century; its main occupation was bovine and porcine breeding. Along the years Uayamon diversified its production and commercialisation. By the 18th century it was considered one of the most important haciendas in the region, due to its varied production; besides cattle and corn, henequen, sugar cane were also cultivated. Nowadays, Uayamon is a romantic hideaway amidst overgrown ruins and dense jungle. Where former workers quarters once were, are now luxurious rooms. Refreshments will be served here before your transfer back to the ship.

Located on a natural limestone ridge, the site provides panoramic views of the hilly Cayo District and is situated just 3.2 km (2 miles) from the Guatemala border. The largest temple “El Castillo”, excavated and partially restored, is famous for its frieze, a banded stucco decoration that at one time extended around the entire pyramid. During your 1½-hour guided tour, you will also visit the site’s three plazas and partially excavated ball court.
Before leaving the site, spend some time at the display centre with your guide.
At the end of your visit, board the ferry again for the ride back to your awaiting coach. A 10-minute drive will take you to the city of San Ignacio, where you will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. Next, reboard your coach for the 2-hour return drive to the pier and your ship.
- This moderate tour involves approximately 350 metres (0.21 mile) walking with inclines and steps on foot-paths and rocky terrain; no ramps are available. It is not recommended for pregnant women, nor for persons suffering from heart or back problems. Participants should be in good physical condition. Please note that climbing the ruins might be forbidden in case of bad weather conditions. Scenic wildlife river cruise
Enjoy a wildlife adventure where you will have a chance to observe manatee dolphin, crocodiles, iguanas and many species of aquatic birds.
After embarking a local boat, your experienced captain will head out of the harbour and along the Belize City coastline on a short run to the Belize River. Enjoy the scenic ride along the colourful seafront while you enter the mouth of the Belize River after an approximately 15-minute journey.
During 1 h 15 cruise slowly along the calm waters, along the jungle-covered river bank, in pursuit of the many different species of wildlife that live in and along this winding tropical waterway. Your guide will help you keep a sharp look-out for crocodiles, manatees, and iguanas, numerous species of colourful birds and even, on occasion, a playful dolphin or two that have come up the river in search of a meal.
Enjoy refreshments during your return journey to the pier and your ship.

Lamanai Mayan site & New River
Board your comfortable, air-conditioned coach for the approximately 1¼ hour drive to the river outpost accompanied by your guide, who will share Belize’s rich cultural and ecological heritage with you.
Upon arrival, you will have a quick restroom break before boarding a local boat for the 1½-hour ride up the New River towards Lamanai Mayan site. Keep your eyes open and your cameras ready as crocodiles, iguanas, a variety of species of birds and even a troop of howler monkeys are just some of the wildlife that might make an appearance for you.
On approaching the entrance of the New River Lagoon, the ruins of the high temple rise into view, welcoming you to the ancient Mayan city. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before visiting the ruins. For 1½ hours, discover this hidden world still surrounded by pristine jungle, and where elite rulers are buried in magnificent temples and sacred deities are immortalised in stone images. Lamanai is a Mesoamerican archaeological site, and was once a major city of the Maya civilisation. It is renowned for its exceptionally long occupation, spanning three millennia beginning in the Early Preclassic Maya period and continuing through the Spanish and British Colonial periods. Unlike most Classic-period sites in the southern Maya lowlands, Lamanai was not abandoned at the end of the 10th century AD.
After the visit and some time at leisure, board your boat for the 1½-hour ride back to the outpost where your waiting bus which will drive you back to the pier and your ship.
