Le Commandant Charcot teams up with the RV Kronprins Haakon in the Arctic

In the Arctic, Le Commandant Charcot led the way to the RV Kronprins Haakon, as they were both sailing to the North Pole. The Norwegian oceanographic and polar icebreaker, owned by the Norwegian Polar Institute, was heading to the North Pole as part of her annual scientific expedition to the polar ocean, on a mission to collect environmental samples.

This meeting, planned by both Captains, created an opportunity for a unique cooperation, with both vessels combining their capabilities. Le Commandant Charcot was once again making a demonstration of her exceptional features, both in terms of team spirit among seafarers, and of her extraordinary technical capabilities. They allow her to face any sea ice condition, hence her opening of a channel for the RV Kronprins Haakon, which was following behind.

This collaboration fully demonstrates PONANT’s values, which was founded by French Merchant Navy officers and is committed to scientific endeavour. This is an example of what can be achieved through teamwork and a unique opportunity for our guests to see first-hand the challenges involved in polar science. Both her Lead Scientist and Captain joined us on board Le Commandant Charcot to introduce to guests the RV Kronprins Haakon, and her scientific missions
